Appel Farm started as a private summer arts camp for children in 1960. Albert and Clare Appel converted their 176-acre farm into an arts center that encourages and develops future artists in multidiscipline areas such as: Music, Theater, Dance, Visual Arts, and Media Arts. Appel Farm Arts and Music Center was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1978.
Each year since 1989 the Appel Farms Art & Music Festival has attracted thousands of visitors and hosted many famous artists such as Arlo Guthrie, John Prine, Jackson Browne and many others. The festival includes a craft fair featuring original hand-made work of dozens of artists. There's a puppet theatre, magicians, jugglers and storytellers for children of all ages and the young at heart.
