Wineries & Wine Trails

Located in the heart of the Delaware Valley, Salem County and the surrounding area has nineteen vineyards and wineries offering a unique blend of fine wines, scenic countryside views, gourmet dining and tasting rooms.

The history of wine production in South Jersey spans more than 200 years of award winning wines.  In 1767 London's Royal Society of the Arts acknowledged two vineyards in New Jersey for producing the first high quality wine in the America. The Tomasello 2001 Chanbourcin won a gold medal at the San Diego National Wine Competition, the largest wine competition in the country. This area has one of the oldest wineries in America, The Renault Winery 1864. 

South Jersey's climate and soil make for ideal growing conditions for producing high quality grapes.  Many of the wines are blends of European grapes, French-American hybrids and Native-American grapes, all grown in South Jersey's sandy loam with a clay bottom soil with some level of acidity that distinguishes locally produced wine.

Today this area ranks fifth in the country for wine production with more than 2,000 acres under cultivation.  The Garden State wine industry is growing at a phenominal rate with an expectation of the number of vineyards to double in the next few years.
