SPLASH is a volunteer organization that offers unique canoeing and kayaking trips in the lakes and rivers of Salem County - and they are currently being offered FREE of charge. Much of the equipment that SPLASH uses is due to the generosity of Bel Haven Paddlesports, a canoe and kayak paddling center located in Green Bank, NJ. SPLASH started out as a water safety program geared toward local boy and girl scout troops, but is quickly gaining in popularity as a "thing to do" in Salem County. SPLASH also puts on a big event each year at the Salem County Sportsmen Club’s Youth Outdoor Day.
The Salem River runs through the Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Mannington Meadows Complex (PDF File) and the Salem River Wildlife Management Area. Covering over a third of Salem County, it is the largest tributary to the Delaware River. Over two-thirds of the lands surrounding the river are open spaces and farm fields and hosts habitat for the bald eagle.
Oldmans Creek flows through Gloucester and Salem Counties' lush green farms, large tracts of forests and expansive tidal wetlands before meeting the Delaware River. The watershed hosts foraging habitat for the bald eagle.
